Pastels
2021

Pastels made during SIM Residency in Iceland
August – September

Color spaces

In 2018 the discovery of novel dry pastels lead to the  work “Dust”: Exploring spatial and color effects in monochromatic pastel paintings and an abstracted picture horizon that divides the paper horizontally into an above and below.

For this residency the decision fell on these pastels once again. Further color exploration and notion of a picture horizon. Applying pastels in layers of one color at a time. How many layers of color can be applied on top of each other and what kind of color spaces will this create?
