This is a film about projected color. A color film in the truest sense of the word. Each of the twelve sequences is painted in a different color. In the sequence of individual images, the hand animation, a lively color space is created. All image compositions concentrate around a center line, similar to a horizon. This leads to imagined spatial effects. The longer one looks at the pulsating color surfaces, the more one loses oneself in imagined spaces. This description may sound as abstract as the type of painting that occurs in it. In fact, the film intuitively guides the viewer to an interface between the immanent effects of painting and film. A colored celluloid film is also coated with color pigments. Their constant light noise makes up part of what you unconsciously associate with the film experience. Working with ultra-fine pigment – novel, recently developed pastels – allows extremely nuanced color effects. This film thus makes something elementary cinematic visible through the means of painting and animation, which is also conveyed in high-resolution digital projection.
Together with Carl Ludwig Hübsch and the bass flutist Angelika Sheridan, a soundtrack has been developed, which assigns the moving monochromy of the color spaces a similarly lively monotony. The fact that these are purely acoustic sounds is hardly recognizable to the listener. (Daniel Kothenschulte)
